About eight:

• 1. Bridge Street Well at the restored Well on the west side of Bridge Street (B6462), about 100m south of its junction with the A628 (Barnsley Road and Thurlstone Road)
• 2. Children’s Well Dressings a number of small boards on the opposite side of Bridge Street, below its junction with Wentworth Road.

How to get there

Penistone is located on the A628 Barnsley to Manchester road, about 2km west of its junction with the A629 Rotherham to Huddersfield road.

CAR: use S36 6AJ for satnav
At quiet times it may be possible to park on Bridge Street, near the well dressings. Alternatively, use the free public car park on Stottercliffe Road (signposted from Bridge Street just above the old railway bridge).

BUS: Every day: roughly hourly from Barnsley, roughly every 2 hours from Holmfirth and Stocksbridge.

TRAIN: (station in town centre, about 0.5km from the Well Dressings): Mondays to Saturdays: hourly from Sheffield, Huddersfield, Barnsley, Meadowhall and Lincoln. Sundays: every 2 hours from Sheffield, Huddersfield, Barnsley and Meadowhall.

CYCLE: the Trans-Pennine Trail (traffic-free National Cycle Route 62) passes through the town.
